Golf tournament: We continued to discuss the timing of this fundraiser. Holding it in September would require lots of planning over the summer months, which is not ideal due to summer schedules, vacations, etc. On the other hand, most weekends in June have conflicts. Robin will check with the golf course to see if Saturday, June 20 th is available. If so, we will hold the event on this date. We will have a separate meeting to determine committee chairs.

Calendar fundraiser: This may not be necessary if we are able to hold the golf tournament in June.

New Business

Scholastic book fairs: The book fairs at Melrose and Lawn were very successful, with a large increase in sales over last year and lots of positive feedback from faculty and families. Lisa Tuttle and Bev Rudman will give a financial report at the March meeting.

School directory: The directory is finished and is available for purchase ($3) in the offices of both schools.

Health and wellness activities: The swimming event at URI is scheduled for Friday, February 27 th , followed by a trip to the RI Rock Gym in March. Walking club will begin after April vacation. Discussion of a tennis club at Lawn has been tabled due to lack of a volunteer to run it. The previously discussed fitness night may have to wait until next year.

PTO web site: Lisa Kerr is having trouble updating the web site since her computer is not compatible with the school's software. Lisa Tuttle agreed to take over the web site duties.

Drug awareness forum: An evening program on drug awareness and prevention is scheduled for March 10 th at Lawn. This event is sponsored by the Drug Task Force and the PTO. The program is geared towards both students and parents. Dinner will be served.

PTO Board 2009-2010: There was much discussion about the state of the PTO for the next school year. Due to children moving on to high school and other personal reasons, we are going to lose several Board members. We strategized ways to recruit new PTO members and to encourage current members to increase their level of volunteerism: a letter from the principals, another volunteer event, etc. We need to keep the future in mind while keeping our focus on our goals for this school year. If you are interested in being on the PTO Board or in volunteering for any PTO projects/events, please contact one of the current Board members. Volunteering does NOT need to be an enormous commitment! We need your help so that we can continue the programs that benefit our students.

Old Business

Pen Pal program: Julie Bailey will be leaving the island after this school year and will no longer be able to run the pen pal program. She is working on finding someone to replace her. This important program establishes pen pal relationships between Jamestown students and new students coming into our schools. If you are interested in coordinating the pen pal program, please contact Julie at Julie@baileypeople.com .

The next meeting will be on Weds, March 11 th at 3:00pm in the library at Melrose .

Meeting adjourned at 8:15pm.

Lisa Tuttle, PTO Secretary
