TOWN COUNCIL
  JAMESTOWN, RHODE ISLAND
  EMERGENCY MEETING
  JULY 8, 1997

Motion by Councilor Wright, seconded by Councilor Murphy to convene an
emergency meeting of the Jamestown Town Council meeting for the purpose of
discussing an emergency water use ordinance.
     So unanimously voted. The emergency meeting was called to order by
Council President Craig A. Amerigian at the Jamestown Community Center, 41
Conanicus Avenue at 7:28 PM. The following members were present:
  David E. Dolce, Vice President
  William H. Murphy
  Fred F. Pease
  Ellicott Wright

Also present were:
  Frances H. Shocket, Town Administrator
  Theresa C. Donovan, CMC, Town Clerk
  Steven J. Goslee, Public Works Director
  Quentin Anthony, Esq., Town Solicitor

Motion by Councilor Dolce, seconded by Councilor Wright to enact an
emergency ordinance as follows:

  EMERGENCY ORDINANCE REGULATING
  THE USE OF MUNICIPAL WATER
  IN THE TOWN OF JAMESTOWN

The Town of Jamestown hereby ordains that an emergency exists in the
municipal water system due to lack of rain, high temperatures, and high
usage, and in view thereof, the following activities are hereby regulated
as herein provided:
o Ban residential car washing
o Ban boat washing (except for approved boat washing conservation plans)
o Ban filling of swimming pools
o Limit garden watering to hand watering on odd/even days for a maximum of
15 minutes.
Any violation of this ordinance shall be punishable by a fine not
exceeding $500.
     This ordinance shall take effect on Thursday, July 10, 1997 at
Midnight.

So unanimously voted. [Note: During the Water and Sewer Commissioners
meeting immediately preceding this session, the Commissioners voted to
adopt water conservation regulations that would enact steps 1, 2 and 3 in
accordance with a report that the reservoir level was down 18 inches.]

  Adjournment

There being no further business before the Council, motion by Councilor
Wright, seconded by Councilor Murphy to adjourn the emergency Town Council
meeting at 7:31 PM and return to the special meeting of the Board of Water
and Sewer Commissioners. So unanimously voted.
