JAMESTOWN, RHODE ISLAND

Special Session

January 27, 2003

At 6:20 PM at the Jamestown Philomenian Library, 26 North Road, motion by Council Vice President Swain, seconded by Councilor Long to call a special session of the Town Council for the purpose of convening in executive session to discuss contract negotiations, in accordance with Section 206 of the Town Charter and RIGL 42-46-6(c). The vote was, Councilor Swain, aye; Councilor Littman, aye; Councilor Willis, aye; Councilor Long, aye.

The following members were present:

David J. Long

Kenneth G. Littman

Norma B. Willis

Council President Settipane arrived at 6:28 PM.

The only others present were:

Maryanne Crawford, CPA, Town Administrator

Arlene D. Kalooski, Town Clerk

Douglas R. DeSimone, Esq., Town Solicitor

At 6:29 PM Motion by Council President Settipane, seconded by Councilor Long to enter executive session to discuss collective bargaining, in accordance with the provisions of RIGL 42-46-5(a)(2). The vote was Councilor Littman, aye; Councilor Willis, aye; Councilor Swain, aye; Councilor Long, aye; Council President Settipane, aye.

Council returned to public session at 7:00 PM. Motion by Councilor Long, seconded by Councilor Willis to seal the minutes of the executive session to the public. The vote was Councilor Littman, aye; Councilor Willis, aye; Councilor Swain, aye; Councilor Long, aye; Council President Settipane, aye. Motion by Councilor Long, seconded by Councilor Swain to continue the executive session to the end of the regular meeting. So unanimously voted. (This meeting was followed by a regular meeting of the Council.)

The Council resumed the special session at 10:54 PM and moved and seconded to reconven into executive session, pursuant to RIGL 42-46-5 (a) (2) to continue their discussion relating to collective bargaining. The vote was Councilor Littman, aye; Councilor Willis, aye; Councilor Swain, aye; Councilor Long, aye; Council President Settipane, aye.

Council returned to public session at 11:10 PM. Motion by Councilor Long, seconded by Councilor Willis to seal the minutes of the executive session to the public. The vote was Councilor Littman, aye; Councilor Willis, aye; Councilor Swain, aye; Councilor Long, aye; Council President Settipane, aye.

It was moved by Council President Settipane, seconded by Councilor Swain to direct the Town Administrator and Town Solicitor to continue negotiations to obtain a more favorable contract. So unanimously voted.

It was moved by Council President Settipane, seconded by Councilor Long to adjourn the meeting at 11:11 PM. So unanimously voted.
